WHO I HELP

Bring your workplace benefits, personal protection and investment options into clearer focus.

A demanding career can make it easy for benefits, insurance and savings decisions to accumulate in separate pieces. A review can help you understand how they fit together.

Many professionals spend years building skills, accepting greater responsibility and improving their income. Along the way, workplace benefits, personal insurance and investment accounts are often established at different times and for different reasons.

A good income and regular saving are valuable, but they do not automatically answer questions such as whether income risk is adequately addressed, whether workplace coverage would continue after a job change, or whether account choices still fit current goals and access needs.

Career changes can alter more than salary

A new employer can change life insurance, disability benefits, health and dental coverage, pension or group-savings arrangements and other workplace programs. A move into consulting or incorporated work can remove employer-sponsored benefits altogether and create new decisions around income protection and business obligations.

The goal of a review is not to assume that your workplace plan is inadequate. Workplace benefits can be a valuable foundation. The question is what the plan actually provides, what happens when employment changes and whether there are responsibilities that sit outside the plan.

Multiple accounts can serve different purposes

RRSPs, TFSAs, FHSAs and other account structures are not interchangeable. Eligibility, tax treatment, contribution rules, access to funds and time horizon can differ. The discussion should begin with the purpose of the money and the flexibility you may need, not with a favourite account type.

Income protection deserves its own review

For many professionals, future earning ability is one of the largest financial resources supporting a mortgage, family, savings plan or business. Disability coverage can be reviewed in relation to occupation, income, workplace benefits, definitions, waiting periods and benefit periods. No single policy structure is appropriate for everyone.

ADDITIONAL CONTEXT

A particular understanding of technology careers

Having spent more than two decades in corporate IT across technical and leadership roles, I have particular familiarity with job changes, project-driven careers, continuous learning, workplace benefits, contract work and the tendency to postpone personal financial reviews while career demands take priority. That background is relevant context, not a requirement for working together.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Questions worth asking

Do you work with professionals outside technology?

Yes. Technology is part of my background, but I work with professionals from different fields, including healthcare, consulting, management, executive and contract roles.

What should I review when changing employers?

It may be useful to review which workplace benefits end or change, whether any conversion or portability options exist, how new benefits compare, and whether personal coverage or account arrangements need attention.

Can you review my workplace disability coverage?

Yes. The review can focus on the benefit amount, definition of disability, waiting period, benefit period, taxation, exclusions or limitations shown in the plan documents, and how workplace coverage may interact with personal coverage.

Can you help if I work as a contractor or through a corporation?

Yes. Contract and incorporated work can change the way workplace benefits, income protection and business responsibilities need to be considered. Legal and tax questions should be coordinated with the appropriate professionals.
